Nestled along Clitheroe Road between the villages of Whalley and Barrow lies a peaceful and secluded cemetery. This charming burial ground offers a serene final resting place and is jointly owned by Whalley, Wiswell, and Barrow Parish Councils, with day-to-day operations managed by the Whalley, Wiswell, and Barrow Joint Burial Committee through a dedicated Registrar.
The meticulously maintained lawn area includes grave plots and pathside ashes plots. Groundskeepers regularly attend to the grounds to ensure the site remains serene and welcoming. Our Cemetery Policy ensures a uniformed approach to maintain respect and tranquility.
Burial Options
The cemetery caters to diverse preferences, including:
- Traditional Burials: Spacious lawn areas separated for Roman Catholic and Church of England/other faiths.
- Ashes Interment: Dedicated pathside plots along the lawn on the Church of England side, or under hedgerows on the Roman Catholic side.
- Woodland Burials: A stunning, natural area for ashes interment, nestled among trees and bordered by a tranquil stream. Paths and benches provide a quiet, contemplative space for visitors.
The woodland section offers a natural alternative to traditional burials. Left largely wild to encourage biodiversity, this area features well-placed pathways and seating for reflection amidst the beauty of nature.
Visiting the Cemetery
- Hours: Open daily from 7:30 am until sunset.
- Visitor Guidelines: Children must be accompanied, and dogs should be kept on leads and cleaned up after if necessary.
- Parking: No on-site car park is available; however, a turning circle and entrance space can be used (unless a burial is in progress). Unrestricted parking is available on Clitheroe Road.
